Vocabulary Parade

The vocabulary  parade is something started, I believe, by Ms. Hershfeld.  All the teachers and students participate  and everybody tries to dress up and try to portray a word.  Some students have very involved costumes and others need only a hat to illustrate their  chosen word. All the classes parade through the halls and then we all go out the back door of the school and parade around the block before entering the front door. It's a lot of fun and a great way to extend a vocabulary lesson and integrate general language skills, reading, and writing with a hands on activity.  I know by the end of the activity most students fully understand the concept of synonym!

Ms. Hill gets ready to lead her students out and about.
